This is me in the guest
house at the St. Benedict Monastery
in Snowmass, Colorado.
My wife and I stopped there on our way home from Santa Barbara in 2001. Initially we planned to stay for only a couple of days but ended up spending the whole week (all we could afford timewise) and then driving all the way to Long Island without any more sightseeing stops. Talking to monks at the monastery: Fr. Thomas Keating, Fr. Joseph Boyle, Br. Chuck Forester, Br. Thomas Johnston was very enlightening. So when later that year I was attending a conference in nearby Aspen, every morning I drove to the monastery to see my old friends. |
This is me in Kyoto. The building behind me is the famous Golden Pavilion in Kinkaku-ji Temple. The original Kinkaku-ji was built in 1397 but burned to the ground in 1950 by a monk who became obsessed with it. |

This is my wife Olga in a pub in Prague. Drinking lots of Czech Pilsner gives you this golden glow.

It does not entirely disappear even in broad daylight.
